Book Haul – May 2019 Part Two

May 2019 Book Haul Part Two.jpg

As promised in the first part of this book haul, I bought more books (and was gifted some). I bought one book for an event, two with a Waterstones gift card and two were gifted to me by my wonderful partner when I was having a horrible day. Let me know what you bought, borrowed, listened to or read in May, or what you’re looking forward to reading in June!

1. The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

We have been watching the Netflix adaptation of this book, and I have honestly never loved a television series this much since Gilmore Girls. Every single episode makes me cry, it’s so deep and nuanced and I can’t wait to continue with it. I was poorly one day last week and my partner came home with this and the next one for me, and I was ecstatic. I’m hoping to fit it in in June, but if not, then it will definitely be on July’s TBR.

2. Perfidious Albion by Sam Byers

This was another gift from my partner on that horrible day I had being sick, and he must know me so well, because this is a political satire, which is just my thing. He said he got it for me, because “you get angry about Brexit and stuff”, which is legitimately my favourite thing ever. I previously read Sam Byers’ Idiopathy, which I thought was alright, but I have much higher expectations for this one.

3. Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft

I had a Waterstones gift card as a congratulations for my new job, and I was craving some fantasy, so I picked this and the next book on the list. I wanted to start a couple of new series, and this is one of the ones that jumped out at me the most. The reviews for this one are amazing too, so think I will pick it up this summer.

4. Malice by John Gwynne

This is the second book I bought with my gift card, and as I mentioned above, it’s because I wanted to start some new fantasy series and this one caught my eye. I think the covers for these books are super striking as well, so if I love this one, they will look great collectively on my shelf.

5. All the Days and Nights by Niven Govinden

I bought this one in anticipation of an event, which I was unfortunately unable to attend, because of the aforementioned sickness bug. I’m still excited to read it, but it will probably be later in the year now, with all the fantasy and science fiction I’m excited to read over summer.
