Book Haul – May 2019 Part One

May 2019 Book Haul Part One

I finally got another job back in April, so I can add books to my collection once again. I’m going to a book event later in May, so I will most likely pick some more books up there, but these are the ones I’ve bought or that have arrived so far this month.

1. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh

After I have finished reading the Women’s Prize Longlist and the Man Booker International Shortlist, I will be allocating more of my time to reading books that sometimes take a little bit more time and attention to read. This includes classics, and when this one went on sale at £4, I couldn’t pass it up.

2. Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Participating in the Asian readathon this month has made me want to delve further into Asian literature. I already read a great deal of Japanese literature, but I wanted to broaden my horizons a little bit. This book has received huge amounts of praise in the book community, and I thought it would be a fantastic place to start. If you have any other recommendations for Asian literature that is not set in Japan, please let me know and I will get to them as soon as possible.

3. The Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers

I decided to pick up all three of the books currently in this series, because I want to binge read them in either June or July. I’ve heard they have fantastic representation and good character development, and I’m extremely excited to devour them. I will link the first book only, as I don’t want anyone to encounter any spoilers (nor do I want to see any).

4. The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan

This is the second book in the Wheel of Time series, and whilst I wasn’t hugely enjoying the first book initially, I started to love it around the half way point, and now I’m eager to continue with the series. Once I’ve finished with the book prizes I am currently reading, I will dedicate some time to this, and other chunky fantasy novels. I won’t include a link to this one, just because I don’t want people to be spoiled for the first one if they haven’t started the series yet.

As always, please let me know if you have any recommendations for books you think I ought to read, and also, let me know which books you picked up this month, if any. Happy reading everyone!

Please note that the Book Depository links are affiliate links and if you buy any books through them, I will earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. I will be putting this commission towards improving the content I create for this blog.
