OWLs Magical Readathon TBR

This will be my first time participating in the OWLs Magical Readathon, and to say I am excited would be an understatement. G from Book Roast on Youtube has created this readathon with meticulous care and tonnes of effort, and has this year, even created a booklet full of potential careers for us all, which you can find here.

I’ve decided I’m going to try and become a librarian, which means I will need OWLs in Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Defence Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic and Transfiguration. My TBR for these OWLs is as follows:

1. Ancient Runes (retelling) – Circe by Madeline Miller

Book Depository: Hardback // Paperback

2. Arithmancy (work written by more than one author) – Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Book Depository: Paperback

3. Defence Against the Dark Arts (reducto: title starts with an ‘R’) – Remembered by Yvonne Battle-Felton

Book Depository: Hardback

4. History of Magic (published at least ten years ago) – Persuasion by Jane Austen

Book Depository: Hardback // Paperback

5. Transfiguration (sprayed edges or red cover) – Bottled Goods by Sophie van Llewyn

Book Depository: Paperback

Those will be the books I will be prioritising for my career path. However, I do like to aim higher, so I have picked out books for the other seven prompts also. The TBR for these prompts is as follows:

1. Astronomy (“star” in the title) – Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon

Book Depository: Paperback

2. Care of Magical Creatures (land animal on the cover) – The Familiars by Stacey Halls

Book Depository: Hardback

3. Charms (age-line: read an adult work) – Number One Chinese Restaurant by Lillian Li

Book Depository: Hardback // Paperback

4. Divination (set in the future) – Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie

Book Depository: Paperback

5. Herbology (plant on the cover) – The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

Book Depository: Hardback

6. Muggle Studies (contemporary) – Ordinary People by Diana Evans

Book Depository: Paperback

7. Potions (next ingredient: sequel) – Blue Exorcist volume 3 by Kazue Kato

Book Depository: Paperback

Thankfully, many of the prompts allow me to continue with my read through of the Women’s Prize Longlist, so I won’t be too overwhelmed. However, the prospect of facing The Priory of the Orange Tree this month is making me a little nervous, although I’m sure I will love it.

If you’re interested in participating, go over to Book Roast and check out the announcement, and you can also find a downloadable list of prompts, kindly provided by G here. Let me know if you decide to take part, and link your TBRs below. Happy reading everyone!
